Lonnie Lowery is a senior research scientist with Abbott’s Nutrition Science team. He supports scientific research and product development for adult nutrition products.
With 20 years of experience as a researcher and professor of both nutrition/ dietetics and exercise physiology, Lonnie works in the innovation of new adult products. His recent involvement in the entrepreneurship community drives his passion to “invent our way out of society’s nutritional problems”.
Lonnie came to Abbott in 2021 after spending a career researching uncommon lipids and physical stress, very high protein diets, and most recently, coffee bioactives and health. This work has resulted in a variety of professional presentations, scientific and popular media articles, books, and book chapters. Lonnie is a member of the American Society of Nutrition and the Institute of Food Technologists; he is also past president of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists and is a Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
Lonnie earned his first two graduate degrees (MA, PhD) in exercise physiology, principally from Kent State University, and later his MS in nutrition/dietetics from the same institution. That same year (2004) he became a Registered Dietitian as well.
